Community Outreach

Overview

  • Drug Education & Prevention -- These programs are conducted in private and public schools, service organizations and community churches. The objective is to point out the destructiveness of drugs and alcohol, highlight ways to resist peer pressure and the temptation to use drugs or alcohol, and identify already drug dependant youth who seek our assistance.
  • Teen & Gang Intervention & Prevention -- Teen gang intervention and prevention programs offer young people positive alternatives to gang involvement. Gang members and former gang members participate in activities such as recreation, academic tutoring, socialization activities and job skill building. Job placement and job application counseling are also available. While many of these outreaches are conducted in local neighborhoods, some programs are now being held on high school campuses during lunchtime because local school officials have seen the positive impact of these activities and have requested our help for their students.
  • Tutorial/Learning Center -- Staff and volunteers work with youth helping them improve their school performance. In addition, we teach basic computer use to build job skills. This program allows us to assist youth in a most practical and needed way. Working hand in hand with the local school districts and troubled kids, many youth who are expelled from school are finding a second chance to develop good study habits and consistency to reenter public school. These youth also get involved in outreaches and participate in the discipleship programs, as well as reach out to others in our community. Each year over 500 different children come to the LearningCenter for academic assistance and also receive biblical teaching.
  • Institutional Programs -- Visits are made to juvenile halls, jails, in OrangeCounty, providing information, counseling, and encouragement to inmates to live productive, crime-free lives. We work with the courts and probation officers in placement of individuals.
  • Resdidential Program -- Available to those adults addicted to drugs or alcohol. A four month induction phase, a highly structured program designed to help individuals put their lives back together in an environment that encourages discipleship and positive change in their individual lives.
  • Crisis Counseling -- Assists individuals in need via phone calls or actual walk-in visits to our centers. Our volunteers and staff listen to them, help them identify their problems, and assist them in finding help through our agency or through another referral agency.
  • Turning Point -- A program that provides weekly meetings for individuals and family members to help them to build constructive, healthy relationships that support lifestyles free from drugs, alcohol, and gang involvement. This program is designed for those who do not need or are not ready for the Residential Program, yet still need help in finding freedom from their destructive addictions.
  • Kids Club -- Young kids ages 6-12 in the needy areas around Orange County Teen Challenge centers participate in weekly club meetings in which they do crafts and attend Bible studies.
  • Evangelism Ooutreach -- Evangelism outreaches are scheduled throughout the year in local communities to challenge and encourage individuals and families that there is hope and help available to break away from destructive lifestyles in which they are involved through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ! We provide information, support and networking opportunities for local churches and community partners.
  • Re-Entry -- Available to Teen Challenge graduates who have successfully completed the Year-long program and a four month internship. It is a transition home from the Teen Challenge Program back to mainstream society. This six to a year long program gives the individual the opportunity to find a job, a place to live, a local church, andthe tools necessary to continue to live an addiction-free life in Christ.
  • Partners in Christ -- This is a mentor/discipleship program for Teen Challenge graduates, where a local church member makes a commitment to come alongside a graduate for a year. During this year they meet on a weekly basis to receive accountability and basic life skills, such as budgeting, job searching, and seeking God.
